  1. Are STAIRGUARDs easy to install?
    STAIRGUARDs are designed to be installed with easy to follow instructions.
  2. Do STAIRGUARDs need to be installed by a contractor?
    Many people prefer to have a liscenced contractor do the installation although this is not required. Designed for ease of instalation and use, the STAIRGUARD Home Safety System can be installed by the homeowner, although for waranty purposes, STAIRGUARD does require the instalation be inspected and approved by a licensed contractor. To minimize the possibility of a fall on your stairs, and provide life saving protection if one does occure, they must be installed properly to ensure the safety as intended. Using basic tools listed in the instructions, STAIRGUARDs are designed so a homeowner can purchase and install them in a couple of hours.
  3. Are STAIRGUARDs easy to clean?
    STAIRGUARDs can be easily cleaned with soap and water. Injection molded from ABS plastic, they are stain resistant and user friendly.
  4. How long does it take for shipping?
    STAIRGUARD ships orders within 14 days of recieving the order.
  5. Is there a weight limit?
    The STAIRGUARD Home Safety System has been tested to interrupt the fall of a 250lb. adult. When installed as intended, STAIRGUARDs provide stability and security while descending stairs and offers piece of mind when navigating your stairs.
  6. How many steps of a staircase will a set of three cover?
    STAIRGUARDs are intended to be spaced alternatively every four or five steps. A set of STAIRGUARDs will provide security for the majority of all staircases found in the home. Additional barriers can be purchased for longer staircases or personal preference.
  7. Is there a maximum width of a staircase?
    STAIRGUARD barriers are intended to extend from the wall at least 40% of staircase width to provide safety as intended and designed. A mounted STAIRGUARD barrier extends 18" from the wall. STAIRGUARDs are intended to installed on staircases from 36" to 48" wide.

  9. How do I care for my new STAIRGUARDs?
    STAIRGUARDs are intended for in-home use and not waranted for use where subject to extensive exposure to harmful UV rays. Virtually maintenance free, STAIRGUARDs can be easily cleaned with soap and water or most any household cleaner that is not harsh or abrasive.
  10. Can they be painted?
    If so desired, STAIRGUARDs can be spray painted after lightly scuffing the surface with a scotchbright pad.
  11. Can they be used to climb stairs?
    Yes, many people find that having a barrier to hold on to provides an aid to assist in climbing the staircase and also gives peace of mind knowing that a fall is never more than a few steps if one does occure.
  12. Do we have to remove handrails?
    On staircases where handrails are present, STAIRGUARD recommends that where barriers are installed, short sections of the handrail be removed, and as needed, mounting hardware be moved or added to keep the handrails attached to to the wall.
  13. Can barriers be installed across from each other for access restriction?
    Barriers can be mounted across from each other to prevent infants, elderly, and even pets from accessing the staircase.
